Hello! I'm Mrs. Cole. I teach 5th grade math and science at Taft Elementary School in Ashland, Ohio. The purpose of this page is to introduce myself to you and/or allow you to learn more about me.

Education:

I attended elementary school right here at Taft Elementary a long time ago. I went to the Ashland Junior High School (it contained grades 7 - 9 and is now called Ashland Middle School and has only grades 7 & 8). I graduated from Ashland High School in 1978. I was part of the AHS marching band and stage band playing tenor saxophone in both. I also played varsity volleyball, basketball and softball. My senior year, our basketball team was one win away from making it to the state tournament (being in the top 8 wasn't bad though). I was named the Female Athlete of the Year that year. I attended The Ohio State University in Columbus where I played softball and studied to become a teacher. I played left field and catcher and was captain of the team one year. For personal reasons, I finished my college schooling at the branch in Mansfield. Since then I have earned a Master's Degree in Education from Ashland University, and continue to take graduate courses, lately, my coursework has been computer related.

Family:

I married Jim Cole on Dec. 13, 1980 (he also attended Taft Elementary and is an AHS and AU grad). We have three daughters who also attended Taft Elementary. All three have graduated from AHS and the college of their choice (Wittenberg, NCSC and U of Akron).  We also consider ourselves very blessed to have two grandchildren.

Hobbies:

I walk everyday. I love to read! Over the summer I usually read a book a week, during the school year I don't have much extra time to read except over breaks. I like to try new things.  I have parasailed, whitewater rafted, sailboarded, sailed a small catamaran, gone ziplining, scuba dived and been hang gliding (that's me in the green helmet).  In the summer of 2009 I jumped out of an airplane!  That's right, I jumped out of a perfectly safe airplane and parachuted to earth (from 2 miles up) - it was a LOT of fun.  I enjoy biking, hiking and playing golf, which I try to do every week of summer break. I have spent a lot of my time watching my kids play sports, now since they are out of school I miss that (but I still enjoy watching my nieces and nephews play). When my kids were younger, I coached a lot of their teams, I have coached about 25 teams/seasons of soccer, basketball, and softball combined.
