Fast Start Poetry Directions:
I decided it would be extremely beneficial for you and your child to take part in a literacy activity each week for homework. Each week, a poem will be sent home, along with a sheet that includes activities to complete with your child that corresponds to the poem. There are three sections of activities: Looking at Words and Letters, Playing with Sounds, and Beginning to Read. Each section gets progressively harder. Your child is only required to complete the activities under the Looking at Words and Letters section. If you would like to try some of the other activities, please do so. Please have your child point to each word in the poem as you say them. I have also included the Fast Start routine so you would have an idea of how to implement the program at home. You will want to read the poem multiple days with your child. You may repeat the same activity until your child seems very confident doing it.
