Meet Your Teacher

Welcome to the 7th Grade!

My name is Jarrod Vance and I will be your Language Arts teacher this year.

This is my third year at AMS, my second teaching 7th grade Language Arts.

Last year I taught 8th grade American Studies.

I attended elementary school at Westwood Elementary School in Wellington, Ohio.  After third grade I

moved on to McCormick Middle School (grades 4-8), then on to Wellington High School.  I graduated

from High School in 2002, and two days later started college.  I started at Lorain County Community College,

in Elyria, Ohio.  From June of 2002 to May of 2004, I attended LCCC, knowing that I wanted to be a

middle school teacher.  From 2004-2006, I attended Ashland University, graduating in May of 2006.  My degree

is in Education, with emphasis on the middle grades (4-9).  Currently, I am working on my Master's Degree

in using technology in the classroom, at Walden University.

Professional Experience:

Since graduating in 2006, I subbed my first year out of school at various school districts.  The primary

district was Wellington.  During the 2007-2008 school year, I started the year again subbing, until the

opportunity of becoming the 8th grade American Studies teacher presented itself.  Since December 10, 2007,

I have been teaching at AMS, and I am loving every minute of it!  Ashland has the best students and the

greatest staff.  I am fortunate that this opportunity came my way, and I hope to be here a long time!

Hobbies & Interests:

Currently, I am still living in Wellington.  When I am not in school and not working on my Master's

classes, I like to relax and enjoy life.  I enjoy going to movies, reading, going for a run now and then,

and hanging out with friends and family.  I am looking forward to this school year, and I know we

will have a great year!

My Mission Statement:

My sole reason for becoming a teacher is to make a difference in the lives of my students.

All of my students will be given every opportunity to succeed in the educational process.  Their needs

will be the focus of my teaching.  All of my students will be taught in a safe, caring environment,

where everyone is respectful, responsible, and ready.
