ASVAB
The ASVAB is an 8 part test given by the United States military, and while it "was originally designed to predict future academic and occupational success in military occupations" it is presently an excellent measure of what career areas students have current skills in. The ASVAB is a good tool to use in making plans and career choices. This test is given to the junior class.
PLAN
The PLAN is a test for sophomores and is essentially a pre-ACT test that can be a predictor of success on the ACT. Students who take the PLAN generally do better when taking the ACT for the first time. The PLAN also focuses on career preparation. More details can be found in ACT's brochure Why take the PLAN or on their PLAN website for students.
PSAT
PSAT/NMSQT stands for Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test, and is targeted at Juniors, but sophomores may take it as practice. It is a standardized test that provides firsthand practice for the SAT Reasoning Test™. It also gives you a chance to enter National Merit Scholarship Corporation scholarship programs. More information on the PSAT is available at Collegeboard.com's PSAT website.

ACT - Registration available online
The ACT is one of most widely used college entrance exams. It is a good idea to take the ACT the first time in your junior year of high school, leaving time to take it again as a senior if you are not happy with your scores the first time. Students may register for the ACT by picking up a packet in the guidance office, or by registering online. More information is also available at http://www.actstudent.org/ . A list of ACT Test Dates may be viewed here. Students wishing to practice for the ACT may also pick up a practice test booklet in the guidance office. ACT offers an online prep class for those who are interested as well.
